More than a Journey

A Culinary Society believes that the most authentic way to understand a place is through its table—but the table is only the beginning. Our small-group journeys open doors to the people, traditions, music, architecture, history and stories that bring a destination to life. We don’t simply visit a place.

We become part of its story.

Americana Trilogy is a journey into the music of the American South..

Three legendary places, three distinct sounds, and the remarkable people whose talent, stories, and communities helped create a soundtrack that reached far beyond their hometowns.

Our journey begins in Muscle Shoals, where an unassuming Alabama community on the banks of the Tennessee River became one of the most influential recording centers in the world. Here, musicians, producers, songwriters, and the legendary Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section—forever known as The Swampers—proved that extraordinary music doesn't require a big city—it requires extraordinary people.

Over four days and three nights, we'll step inside the studios where some of America's most enduring music was created, experience exceptional Southern food and hospitality, and spend time with people who know the stories behind the songs. We'll explore not only what happened here, but why Muscle Shoals became a place where artists came to create—and returned again and again.

This isn't a journey built around standing behind velvet ropes. It's about conversations, connections, and experiencing the Shoals through the people who call it home. Our time together culminates with a private evening at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio—a gathering of food, stories, musicians, and music in the very place where history was made.

Muscle Shoals is Chapter One of Americana Trilogy, followed by Macon, Georgia, where Southern Rock found one of its most important homes, and Key West, where generations of musicians and songwriters have found inspiration at the southernmost edge of America.

Three places. Three musical stories. One extraordinary journey through the sounds of the American South.

Americana Trilogy is a journey through the people and places that tell America's story—not through monuments or postcards, but through music, traditions, shared meals, and the remarkable people who keep those stories alive.

The journey concludes on the island known simply as “The Rock.” At the southernmost edge of the continental United States, Key West has long welcomed dreamers, artists, writers, fishermen, cigar makers, musicians, and adventurers drawn by its independent spirit and unmistakable sense of place. Life here has always been shaped as much by the people as by the sea, creating one of America's most distinctive and enduring communities.

Over four days and three nights, you'll discover the authentic character of Key West through thoughtfully curated culinary experiences, guided walks through Old Town, fascinating museums, historic neighborhoods, hidden local treasures, and meaningful encounters with the people who continue to preserve the island's unique heritage. From exceptional seafood and island-inspired cuisine to evenings along the historic waterfront and a memorable sunset cruise, every experience has been chosen to reveal the Key West that exists beyond the postcards.

Designed for travelers who value authentic experiences and meaningful connections, this signature A Culinary Society journey goes beyond the familiar tourist attractions to uncover the people, history, music, and cultural influences that transformed a small island at the edge of America into one of its most extraordinary destinations.

Key West is the final chapter of Americana Trilogy—three intimate journeys tracing an American story through music, place, culture, and the people who keep it alive. We begin in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, where an extraordinary community of musicians created a sound heard around the world. We continue to Macon, Georgia, where Southern Rock found its home. And finally, we arrive in Key West, where generations of cultures, characters, artists, and adventurers have created an island unlike anywhere else in America.

Three cities. Three chapters. One American story.

We invite you to take your seat at the table.

What Sets Our Journeys Apart

01 / Exceptional Stays

Beautiful, distinctive accommodations become part of the experience—not simply where we stay at the end of the day.

02 / Remarkable Access

We build our journeys around people who know a place intimately—chefs, artists, musicians, winemakers, historians and local voices who invite us beyond the expected.

03 / Meaningful Connection

With intentionally small groups, strangers become friends, conversations linger, and the people we meet along the way often become the stories we remember most.

Trish Ellington

Founder

For more than 30 years, Trish Ellington has brought people together through hospitality, travel and shared experiences. A Culinary Society grew from a simple belief: the most memorable journeys aren’t defined only by where we go, but by the people who welcome us when we arrive.

As founder of A Culinary Society, Trish creates intimate journeys built around relationships—with chefs, winemakers, musicians, artists, historians and local voices who open doors that aren’t ordinarily open to travelers. Her approach is deeply personal: travel slowly, gather around the table, listen to the stories and leave knowing more than you did when you arrive.

For Trish, the best journeys don’t simply show us the world. They connect us to it.

  • "The trip was amazing from the booking process until we landed back in Miami. Trish was so informative and communication was excellent. I highly recommend it!"

    —Ivy R.

  • "I work overseas and travel all the time with my wife but this trip was so different and relaxing... mainly because I didn’t have to make the plans! Thank you, Trish, for sharing your adventures with us…I’m sure we would do this again in the future!"

    —Drew

  • "This is the way to visit travel! The excursions were the best, the trip was perfectly planned. and we had so much fun learning about a very different culture!"

    —Heather S.
