DAY ONE | THURSDAY, MARCH 18
Welcome to the Shoals
We'll gather at Huntsville International Airport and make our way to Muscle Shoals, beginning our journey over a casual Southern lunch. From there, we'll head into the Alabama countryside for a visit to family-owned Dawson Distillery, where moonshine offers a spirited introduction to one of the region's longstanding traditions.
After checking into our hotel, there will be time to settle in before we gather again for dinner. And for anyone still ready for a little fun, we may just find some local music—or perhaps even a microphone.
DAY TWO | FRIDAY, MARCH 19
Where the Music Lives
We’ll spend the day discovering the people, places and remarkable circumstances that turned this small corner of Alabama into one of the most influential music communities in the world.
We’ll visit the Alabama Music Hall of Fame before stepping inside the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio at 3614 Jackson Highway, where The Swampers created a sound that drew some of the biggest names in music to Alabama. Along the way, we’ll also discover another side of the Shoals through the Frank Lloyd Wright Rosenbaum House and the birthplace of W.C. Handy, known as the “Father of the Blues.”
And then we’ll trade recording studios for something completely different: dinner at the Rattlesnake Saloon, tucked beneath a massive rock overhang in the Alabama countryside—a wonderfully unexpected ending to the day.
DAY THREE | SATURDAY, MARCH 20
Stories, Legends & the Sound of the Shoals
We’ll begin with another legendary name in American music: FAME Recording Studios, the place where the Muscle Shoals story first captured the attention of the world and where generations of extraordinary artists have come to record.
But the story of the Shoals extends far beyond music. We’ll visit Ivy Green, the birthplace and childhood home of Helen Keller, and discover Tom’s Wall, an extraordinary tribute to the Yuchi people and the Native American history of this land.
Then, as evening approaches, we’ll follow the music to Cypress Moon Studios, the riverfront building that became the second home of Muscle Shoals Sound Studio. Here, we'll gather for a private Southern barbecue and an evening of music, stories and conversation in a place where another chapter of the Muscle Shoals story was written.
DAY FOUR | SUNDAY, MARCH 21
One More Story Before We Go
Before we leave the Shoals, we'll gather one last time for a relaxed morning together—and one final story.
Rather than ending our journey with another museum or landmark, we’ll spend our last hours the way we believe music is best experienced: up close, personal and shared with the people who live it. Over brunch, we'll be joined by a local musician for an intimate acoustic morning of songs, stories and conversation.
No stage. No concert. Just a guitar, a few songs and the stories behind them—the perfect way to say goodbye to Muscle Shoals.
From there, we'll make our way back to Huntsville International Airport, carrying home a much deeper understanding of why this small Alabama community has had such an extraordinary influence on American music.
